Why I'm grateful to live in the US

As I celebrate the 4th of July, I am reminded why I am grateful to live in this great country.

My grandparents on both sides migrated to the US looking for the opportunities that living in Mexico did not offer. They worked hard in the orchards in Central Washington and the berry fields right here in Whatcom and Skagit County. They didn't look for handouts. They worked hard and taught their children and grandchildren the same.

I am 100% Mexican by heritage but I am also 100% American by birth. I will always defend this nation that has given so much to my family now 3 generations strong.

God bless this country and to those who have served and given their lives for our freedoms.
